Short Biography
I have more than 25 years of experience as a scientific researcher who combined studies with working and other commitments. I have extensive experience in environmental management with particularly in hazardous waste management, waste disposal by landfilling, air pollution, soil pollution, water pollution, and industrial sites remediation. During my tenure in the private sector I gained valuable experience in conducting environmental impact assessment for many industrial and urban projects. I also have teaching, training, and management capabilities being a faculty member at Cairo University for more than fifteen years. I have conducted many training workshops and short courses both in Egypt and abroad all are related to environmental issues including site selection, design, and operation of hazardous waste landfills, environmental impact assessment, and environmental geology, PCBs and used oil management, and more.
In achieving this, I have shown myself to be self-motivated, committed and determined in achieving my goals, come what may. I have also demonstrated negotiating and organizing skills, a firm sense of responsibility and my capacity to work hard under pressure. I possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and am able to relate to a wide range of people, as proven by my varied work experiences in both governmental and non-governmental scientific institutes. I am also an active member of the high education quality assurance and quality control committee that belongs to Cairo University. I am also a Chief compiler and editor of a series of environmental proposals, guidelines, and newsletters being a consultant and project coordinator to the Basel Convention treaty on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal. All of my work experiences have involved working within a team-based culture. ). I have successfully undertaken various team projects within both academic and non-academic environments that have resulted in the establishment of two major research and training centers hosted in Cairo University namely, Cairo University Centre for Environmental Hazard Mitigation (CEHM) and The Basel Convention Regional Center for Training and Technology Transfer for the Arab-speaking Countries (BCRC-Egypt). I have excellent oral communication skills both in English and Arabic expressed in presentations and in talking to the general public.
I received my M.Sc in geology from Cairo University in 1988, my PhD in geology from the University of Cairo in 1994,with collaboration with the university of Nebraska at Lincoln, USA through a channel system program. I have also organized, co-organized and attended a number of industry-sponsored and United Nation-sponsored workshops and training courses related to various aspects of environmental sciences. I am keen to continue my career as a regional scientific advisor, planning research policies, fund raising proposals, and cooperation
