The region of southern Iraq during the third and fourth centuries AH, corresponding to the ninth and tenth century AD, was one of the sensitive areas in the history of the Abbasid state, with the forces and struggles that emerged in it, and the revolution against the Abbasid state.
Iraqi society during that period lacked social justice and care for the poor classes, as well as lacking for an independent central government. The central government in Baghdad has fallem to rock bottom. The Abbasid caliph himself was weak and under the sway of corrupt court men, and at the mercy of his guards, who were a Junta of foreign military commanders. The Turks took control of the court after the killing of Al-Mutawakkil in the year 247 AH/861 AD, and they weakened the caliphs and exhausted them by asking for money and assaulting their persons.
That region, or wat was known as al-Bataeh, witnessed numerrous events, including the Al-Zat uprising, the Alawites revolution, the Zinj revolution, the Qarmatian strife, the emergence of the Ismailis, In addition the Imran bin Shaheen movement, who was able to establish an emirate and defect from the Abbasid regime and entered into battles with it in more than one round. He was also able, with his strong personality and leadership talents, to gather the supporters of the Al-Bataeh residents of fishermen, bandits, and groups of Arab tribes settled there.
The research discusses the rise and fall of this emirate and the conditions of the Abbasid state that contributed to the success of those independence movements that the region witnessed in this period of the Abbasid states history. |
