Abstract
:
Background: Childbirth is a natural physiological process and it a special moment to mother and family. This process started at the first stage of labor which character as a longer and painful. For that, parturient need methods to reduce the sense of labor pain. The Aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness of two different positions during the active phase on labor pains among primiparae Design: A pre-experimental: one group pretest-posttest design used following a purposeful sampling method. Sample size: A purposeful sample of sixty primiparae who were available at the time of data. Setting: Labor and delivery unit at KAUH, Jeddah. Data collected from February 2020 up to the beginning of September. Tool: A structured questionnaire divided into four parts; Part I: socio-demographic data clinical characteristics structured interview schedule. Part II: Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Part III: Present Behavioral Intensity Scale (PBIS). Part IV: Satisfaction with the positions assume during the study. Results: There is a statistical significant association between labor sitting and hospital assumed positions and the intensity of uterine contractions (p<0.05), while there was no significant effect of sitting position and side lying position during first stage of labor on the intensity of labor pain but there a positive significant effect of both position in the maternal satisfaction at the p-value <0.05. Conclusion: Use of the both position during first stage of labor have a positive effect on mother experience even though there is no effect on the intensity of labor was measured. Recommendation: encourage maternal position changing during the first stage and help the mother to choose the comfort position during first stage of labor.
