Abstract
:
This study aims to identify the reality of library education in secondary schools for girls in Jeddah. The researcher has adopted in this study scientific analysis of three textbooks include curriculum scheduled of "Library Subject" for the female students of these schools in terms of form and substantive content; She also made an inquiry of (120) students by (20%) of the total number of students who have completed study these three books in high school of the first level at King Abdul-Aziz University in Jeddah. Moreover, She made a survey on (25) female teachers who teach "Library Subject" in these schools by (18%) of the total number of subject teachers who are (140) female teachers. The researcher extracted a set of results, the most important is teaching such subjects has failed to achieve the goals set by Saudi Ministry of Education, where they adopted the method of teaching in most of this subject on the theoretical side and indoctrination by the female teacher, and on the other side, the memorizing and rote by the student due to fail in practical applications and research assignments, and lack of educational situations that can be made available through the cooperation between the female teacher of "Library Subject" and the rest of the other courses teachers. The study recommended, inter alia, the development of the three textbooks including topics by specialists in the field of library and information, and paying attention of teaching library education subject for students of all levels of education in primary, middle and secondary schools so as to contribute to the strengthening and supporting the educational process and realizing the concept of modern education..(Translated by: Sara Nasser Al_Shafie)
