Abstract
:
Recently with the use of modern techniques in orthodontics, it is possible to treat moderate crowding without extraction of permanent teeth. Several appliances have been advocated to distalize the maxillary molars. Distal Jet appliance was found to be effective in distalizing the maxillary first molars. The molars could be displaced distally with some distal tipping. On the other hand, there is no enough data regarding the effect of the Multi-Distalizing arch. Therefore, this study was conducted to evaluate and compare dental and skeletal effects of two distalizing appliances. The Distal-Jet (DJ) versus Multidistalizing arch (MDA). The sample consisted of twenty females ranged in age from 12 to 14years selected according to the following criteria: - (1) Class 1 molar relation. (2) Upper arch crowding 3 to 5 mm while no or minimal Crowding in the lower arch. (3) No skeletal abnormalities. (4) An acceptable soft tissue profile. The sample was divided equally into two groups. The first group treated with the (DJ) appliance and the second group treated with MDA. For each case, full records were taken at the start of treatment and immediately after molar distalization. The result of this study revealed the following:- 1- Both DJ and MDA appliances primarily affected the dental and has no skeletal effects. 2- Maxillary molar distalization wasfaster with the use of the DJ. 3- Distal molar movement was manly bodily with some tipping. 4- Distalization of molars was accompanied in both appliances with some extrusion that was slightly more in MDA group. 5- There was negative treatment effect in the form of forward movement of the maxillary incisors in DJ groups. It was no accentuated and accompanied by mandibular incisors protrusion in MDA group 6- Facial heights increased slightly during the treatment in the two groups.
